Deion Sanders indirectly accused Kansas State players of faking injuries during last weekend’s game against Colorado.
On Saturday, Colorado fell to 4-2 with a 31-28 loss to Kansas State. Late in the Big 12 matchup, multiple Wildcats defenders went down on the field during the same drive. Buffaloes fans booed, feeling they were intentionally trying to slow the tempo and halt the offense’s momentum.
On Thursday’s Colorado Football Coaches Show, Sanders discussed the legitimate injuries that hit his team on Saturday. Travis Hunter, Jimmy Horn Jr., Omarion Miller, and Terrell Timmons all left the game early.
Sanders confirmed that Miller and Timmons will miss Saturday’s game at Arizona, calling injuries a “tough” aspect of football out of their control. He then playfully noted that the other side also seemed to have trouble staying healthy.
“I think they had several players go down consecutively,” Sanders said. “Now, I don’t know if they were hurt or not.”
Mark Johnson called it a “fascinating moment in time” when joking about the “startling” coincidence. Sanders was amused by the perceived tactic.
“It was funny to me. I thought it was really brilliant,” Sanders said. “I really thought it was brilliant. I just started laughing. It was brilliant.”
Kansas State players would be far from the first players to fake an injury to stop the clock. It’s not quite an innovative strategy on par with Dan Lanning intentionally putting a 12th defender on the field to kill time and prevent Ohio State from making a big play late in Oregon’s 32-31 victory.
Whether their injuries were real or not, the Wildcats left Folsom Field with their fifth win of the season behind 423 total yards. Shedeur Sanders amassed 388 passing yards, but Colorado collected -29 yards on the ground.
The banged-up Buffaloes will play Arizona on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET on FOX.
