Deion Sanders and Colorado wrapped up bowl eligibility Saturday, beating Cincinnati 34-23 to move to 6-2 on the season.
It’s a remarkable turnaround for Sanders, who took over a 1-11 program following the 2022 season and went 4-8 in his first season in Boulder. Colorado is now going bowling for just the third time in the last 17 years, and following yesterday’s game, Sanders wasted little time in celebrating the accomplishment with Peggy Coppom, one of the Buffaloes’ biggest fans.
Coppom is 99 years old and is a Colorado superfan. She went viral for dancing with Sanders at the team’s 2023 Kickoff Luncheon and was also named MVP of the team’s Spring Game that year. Unfortunately for Coppom, she’s dealing with COVID-19 right now, so she was unable to see Saturday’s win in person.
Sanders made sure she was included in the postgame festivities though, calling Coppom from the locker room with the entire team around.
“Peggy, everybody in the locker room can hear you and everybody around the country can hear you,” Sanders said.
“Oh my gosh, I am so happy,” Coppom said in response. “Thank you. My, what a turnaround you’ve been for us.”
“Peggy, first and foremost, we love you. We appreciate you, and we want to thank you and we want to congratulate you to being able to go to a bowl game this year,” Sanders said.

Sanders also told Coppom he has a game ball for her once she’s healthy enough to collect it, and the team concluded the call chanting “We love you, Peggy.”
Coppom has lived in Boulder for more than 80 years. She and her late twin sister Betty, who passed away in 2020, made themselves known as Colorado superfans over the years.
Coppom has attended over 3,000 Buffaloes sporting events in her life. It would be awesome if she could make it to the team’s bowl destination this year.
