Welcome!
This is the homepage for the countdown of the 24 greatest games from Folsom Field’s first 100 years. Why 24 and not 25? I’m glad you asked.
For one thing, the stadium’s opening year and the year in which I’m compiling this list both end in 24. For another, 24 was Byron White’s number – the first ever retired by CU. And what’s the highest karat gold you can get? 24, baby. Finally, Folsom Street, which runs next to the stadium, used to have a different name. Yep, you guessed it: 24th Street.
All of these games are great, and the order is really just for fun (and so we can argue about it). I quote the legendary former CU Sports Information Director Fred Casotti’s preface to his 1972 list of “Sweetest Saturdays” when I say: “It’s somewhat foolish to rank them in order of their importance, but I am a somewhat foolish person.”
I learned so much while researching this project, and I hope you enjoy learning about some classic games that might be new to you, in addition to re-living the games you remember. If you’re curious about how I came up with the order, check out the “Methodology” link below. Click on any of the other hyperlinks to jump to the game of your choice (once it’s been revealed), or just start with the Honorable Mentions and work your way up.
Happy reading and Go Buffs.
