You never know what’s going to go viral on social media these days. But one question about Colorado quarterback and potential first-round draft pick Shedeur Sanders seems to have united the world in being baffled by it.
On Sunday a user on X with the handle @DeuceThomas made a post asking “Shedeur more popular than Johnny Manziel when he was in college?” Somehow, some way the post spread like wildfire, garnering over 14 million views in two days while getting ratio’d into oblivion as fans angrily responded with a collective “no.” As of writing the post has 680 comments and over 1,300 reposts compared to just 157 likes.
While the original poster has had a good laugh reveling in some of the responses, the college football world has stayed pretty united in making it clear that he’s a far cry from former Texas A&M quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel, aka “Johnny Football.”
Fans made it abundantly clear just how popular Manziel was and why Sanders isn’t more popular than him.
“Johnny Manziel literally owns Texas A&M 😂😂 they tore down and rebuilt half of their entire athletic complex, including the football stadium for him. That’s the most motion any D1 college has ever seen,” one user declared.
“Johnny manziel literally got the name “ Johnny football “ went into number 1 ranked Alabama probably off a 2 day bender and beat Nick Saban lmao sheduer sanders isn’t close to him with all due respect,” wrote another.
“Shadeur isn’t more popular in college than Johnny Football still is right now,” a third said.
“Johnny Football at his peak is arguably the most famous/hyped college football player of all time. By that same metric Shadeur doesn’t make the top-10, maybe not the top-25,” wrote a fourth.
And in case you’re wondering what Manziel himself thinks of Sanders, he hasn’t exactly had the most glowing reviews of the man either…
