After 10 games a look at where Colorado’s stars are projected to be selected
The 2024 NFL Draft is shaping up to be one of the most exciting in years, and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter are at the center of the buzz. Both players have consistently proven their worth on the field and are expected to be early first-round picks. Let’s break down their projected landing spots, strengths, and areas of improvement as we anticipate their transition to the NFL.
(QB) Shedeur Sanders
Current Mock Ranking: Round 1, Pick 3 / Browns
Best Mock Rating: Round 1, Pick 1 / Jaguars
Mine: Round 1, Pick 1 / Browns, Giants, or Raiders
Shedeur Sanders is likely to be the first pick in the 2024 draft, despite some projections having him a few spots lower. Sportsbooks favor him as the most likely quarterback to go first overall, and for good reason. At this point, Shedeur is arguably the best quarterback in his class, making him a highly sought-after prospect.
Potential Teams:
The Browns, Giants, and Raiders are all in the market for a quarterback and could trade up to secure Shedeur if needed.
What You Like:
Almost everything. Shedeur has a build reminiscent of Patrick Mahomes and showcases NFL-level accuracy. Growing up around professional football has given him an edge, and he has shown great adaptability and leadership qualities. He’s the total package and will be a top pick based on his arm, IQ, and presence in the locker room.
What You Don’t Like:
Shedeur’s tape does reveal a couple of concerns:
- Turnovers: This season, Shedeur has shown a slight uptick in turnovers compared to last year. While scouts tend to believe this can be corrected, it’s still worth noting.
- Timing: Many of Shedeur’s throws are not “on-time,” meaning the ball doesn’t always arrive at its destination when it’s supposed to. This is largely due to inconsistent offensive line play forcing him to improvise. Scouts are likely to overlook this, given his circumstances, but it’s an area to watch.
My Comp:
Geno Smith
(WR/CB) Travis Hunter
Current Mock Ranking: Round 1, Pick 1 / Jaguars
Best Mock Rating: Round 1, Pick 1 / Jaguars
Mine: Round 1, Pick 3 / Browns, Jaguars, Patriots, Giants, Jets
Travis Hunter is the best player in college football this year, and he will be one of the first players off the board in the 2024 draft. His rare ability to excel on both sides of the ball makes him an unparalleled prospect, and any of the top five teams would be lucky to have him.
What You Like:
There’s so much to love about Travis Hunter:
- Defensively: He’s a lockdown press-man corner with incredible instincts and physicality. Travis came out of high school as the best cornerback in the nation, and he continues to dominate as one of the top three corners in college football, according to PFF.
- Offensively: Travis has elite hands, precise route-running, and outstanding body control. His connection with Shedeur Sanders is undeniable, and he consistently delivers big plays on offense.
While he may be a more natural cornerback, his talent is undeniable on both sides of the ball, and he deserves the opportunity to be a two-way player in the NFL.
What You Don’t Like:
NFL GMs may raise concerns about Travis’ emotional reactions on the field or his desire to play both offense and defense. While this might deter some teams, others will likely embrace his versatility and unique talent. If any hesitation arises about his two-way ambitions, it could push him out of the top five. Still, it’s hard to imagine a team passing on his raw talent and potential.
Comp:
As a whole: None. Travis Hunter is truly one of a kind.
Offensively: Justin Jefferson
Defensively: Sauce Gardner
