Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule has a special ask of fans in Lincoln as they prepare to host Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes at Memorial Stadium on Saturday night.
Speaking to the media at Monday’s press conference in the lead-up to this week’s rivalry game, Rhule called on Big Red supporters to be “Nebraska Nice” after welcoming Coach Prime and the Buffs to the Cornhusker State.
“I think it’ll be a great atmosphere. It should be loud and it should be a home-field advantage,” the HC said. “Let’s all be Nebraska Nice on Sunday. It should be a loud, loud, raucous atmosphere.”
Rhule went on to say that his focus is completely on his own team and not with CU and their high-profile coach.
“I’m just trying to get the football right and nothing else,” Rhule explained.
“I’m not going to not wear black this week and I’m not going to not say their name. … I’m just going to keep bringing the guys back to ‘hey guys, let’s execute. Let’s play third down. Let’s protect the football. Let’s not fumble on the seven-yard line.’ … We have a lot more work to do here.”
Nebraska was blown out by Colorado in last season’s sold out home debut in Boulder, 36-14. Rhule will attempt to reverse that result come 7:30 PM this weekend.
