It’s never too early for NFL mock drafts, and we’re already seeing new ones even though Week 2 of the 2024 season just started.
In Ian Valentino’s latest mock for The 33rd Team, three quarterbacks are taken in the top five picks: Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, Texas’ Quinn Ewers and Georgia’s Carson Beck.
Valentino projects Sanders will go off the board No. 1 overall to the Carolina Panthers, who could already be in the market for a replacement for Bryce Young, who they took first overall in 2023.
Some NFL fans are skeptical Sanders is worthy of being that replacement, particularly at No. 1.
“Shedeur Sanders drafted 1st overall pick,” said one person along with a video of a person laughing.
“Sanders still at first overall?” added another person, including a laughter GIF from The Office.
“Cannot imagine a more ridiculous pairing than the Sanders family and David Tepper,” said another person about the Panthers’ owner.
“I have such a hard time seeing a GM put his job in the hands of Shedeur Sanders,” a fourth person said.
“Panthers going from Young to Sanders would be hilarious they legit could be terrible for years,” a fifth commenter chimed in.
Shedeur Sanders is a consensus first round talent, though there are some concerns. The Colorado star recently took heat for appearing to throw his offensive line under the bus following last week’s loss to Nebraska.
Shedeur also was called out for leaving the field early last Saturday, though his father and Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders provided an explanation for the move.
“It was a TV timeout,” Sanders told reporters. “I never and the doctors don’t want to take the guys out into the locker room while the play is going. So, it’s professional that you wait until a TV timeout to take the guys into the locker room to get them checked out.”
Colorado till take on in-state rival Colorado State Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. ET.
