Colorado pulled off one of the most thrilling finishes of the college football season when defeating Baylor on Saturday night.
With seemingly all hope lost, the Buffaloes escaped Folsom Field with an improbable 38-31 victory. Right after a crushing drop, Shedeur Sanders connected with LaJohntay Wester for a 43-yard touchdown in the final play of regulation. Baylor nearly matched Colorado’s overtime touchdown, but Travis Hunter forced a fumble right before Dominic Richardson could reach the end zone.
Paul Finebaum was among the many viewers captivated by Colorado’s comeback. Although the ESPN analyst is often critical of Deion Sanders and the frequently discussed football program, he lauded the Buffaloes as must-see TV during Sunday’s SportsCenter.
“I am in,” Finebaum said when asked if he considers Colorado the most entertaining team in college football. “We’re not talking about a football team. We’re talking about a legitimate reality show. Move over ‘Golden Bachelor.’ I mean, this is the most exciting thing on television right now. And by the way, it’s been that way since the day Coach Prime got there. But I don’t think in all the dramatics we’ve seen anything quite like the scene last night.”
Finebaum called Saturday’s game a “made for Hollywood” ending when noting Colorado’s minuscule win probability in the closing seconds of regulation.
“It’s hard even to believe,” Finebaum continued. “I mean, the percentage of making this — of Colorado winning the game — was under 1 percent on the final play, and they still managed to do it. But then again, Coach Prime is in charge.”
Despite getting sacked eight times, Shedeur Sanders delivered with 341 yards and two touchdowns. Colorado still has plenty of holes, but a prolific passing offense and erratic defense are prone to providing electric shootouts.
Few programs, if any, can match the Buffaloes in terms of pure entertainment value. Colorado will look to put on another show when facing UCF on Saturday afternoon on FOX.
