Colorado fell short in a 28-10 loss to Nebraska. Saturday’s game quickly got out of hand for the Buffaloes, partly because of an uncharacteristic early miscue from Shedeur Sanders.
In the first quarter, Huskers defensive back Tommi Hill picked off Sanders for a touchdown. Nebraska jumped ahead 14-0 and went into halftime up 28-0 at Memorial Stadium.
During his post-game press conference, Sanders acknowledged that the interception impacted the game “a lot.”
“It was just a rookie mistake, honestly. That’s what it was,” Sanders said (h/t On3). “So, it’s small things like that — that kind of thing just can’t happen truthfully, but that stuff happened. So, we’ve just got to bounce back from it and learn from that situation and just be ready for it.”
Sanders threw three interceptions on 430 passes last year, but he’s yielded one in each of Colorado’s first two games. While it didn’t cost him in a Week 1 win where he amassed 445 yards and four touchdowns, the turnover caused the Buffaloes to play the rest of Saturday’s contest from behind.
The senior completed 23 of 38 passes for 244 yards and a touchdown against Nebraska. Colorado’s shortcomings from 2023 continued to hamper the quarterback, as the offensive line allowed five sacks and paved the way for 16 rushing yards.
Sanders talked about going “back to the drawing board” while crediting Nebraska for a strong performance.
“They just came ready to play. Simple,” Sanders said. “They just came out there; they followed their game plan.”
Sanders will look to rebound when Colorado plays Colorado State this Saturday. CBS will televise the rivalry game at 7:30 p.m. ET.
