The Nuggets won 57 games last season, outperforming their projected win total of 52.5. Nikola Jokic won his third MVP in four seasons. The Nuggets tied for the best record in the Western Conference. With an excellent regular season performance, they entered the playoffs as the favorite to win the West.
Things didn’t go as planned once the Nuggets reached the playoffs. The season ended in frustration after blowing a 20-point lead in Game 7 of the semifinals to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Maybe the Nuggets just had a bad game. However, their loss to the Wolves made it clear that making it out of the West is only getting harder.
2024 NBA MVP Voting:
1. Nikola Jokic – 926 points
2. Shai Gilegous-Alexander – 640 points
3. Luka Doncic – 566 points— Noah Weber (@noahweber00) May 8, 2024
Season Outlook
For contention, Jokic needs to compete at an MVP level once again. Jamal Murray needs to find more consistency in his shooting as well. His performance fluctuated last season. With the departure of key defender Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in free agency, the pressure is on Murray to step up as the reliable second option.
Christian Braun is expected to help fill Caldwell-Pope’s role, but his offensive game remains inconsistent. The hottest name from Denver Nuggets media day, Russell Westbrook, will look to add veteran experience, though he’s no longer the dominant player he once was.
Denver’s core remains strong, and head coach Michael Malone is one of the best in the league. For the Nuggets to exceed their projected win total and contend for a title, they’ll need Murray to return to the best version of himself and the other starters to step up and support Jokic. With Jokic leading the way, a successful regular season and deep playoff run are within reach, but only if the supporting cast can rise to the challenge. It remains to be seen whether the Nuggets did enough this offseason to compete with the improving NBA contenders.

Current Nuggets Odds and Trends
The Denver Nuggets win total projection for next season is set at 50.5 wins. The over is -105 and under -115. This is two wins less than their projected total from last season and seven games less than they won.
The Denver Nuggets have been a win-total machine over the last few seasons. Outside of the COVID season, where all win total bets were voided, the Nuggets have exceeded their projected win total in eight straight seasons. They’ve improved upon their win total for five straight seasons. They’ve also won more than 50.5 games for two straight years. They certainly didn’t make any sexy moves this offseason, but having Jokic is usually good for at least close to 50 wins.
