Pitcher Chase Dollander (No. 2 PuRP) will be the Colorado Rockies sole representative. He was the Rockies first-round draft pick (ninth overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Currently, Dollander is having an outstanding season in High-A Spokane. He has a 3.05 ERA in 62.0 innings pitched, striking out 92 and walking 25 in 265 batters faced. That’s an HR/9 of 0.9 and a S0/9 of 13.4 with a 3.68 SO/W.
The former University of Tennessee Volunteer has so far earned a 1.242 WHIP.
“He has a big arm,” Spokane pitching coach Blaine Beatty told Thomas Harding. “He can go down and he can go up [in the zone]. His ability to tunnel [pitches] at the bottom of the zone with his fastball, changeup and slider, and his ability to tunnel pitches at the top of the zone with his fastball and changeup are his biggest strengths.
The Futures Game roster is selected by a joint committee.
As Patrick Lyons has pointed out, Dollander is the first Rockies pitcher selected to the Futures Game since Ben Bowden in 2019 and the 16th pitcher selected to participate since the first in 1999. The first was Chin-Hui Tsao in 2000.
The seven-inning game will take place on July 13, 2024, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, as part of the All-Star Game festivities.
