The Rockies play the first of three games against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Tonight, the Colorado Rockies (2-7) welcome the Milwaukee Brewers (5-5) to Coors Field as they conclude their first homestand of 2025
This year’s 2-7 start to the season matches last year’s nine-game start and is tied for the second-worst start in the first nine games. The 2005 club went 1-8.
It’s worth noting that Rockies starting pitchers have posted a 2.61 ERA (48.1 IP, 14 ER) to begin the season, tied for the second-best starter ERA in the Majors with Los Angles-NL and behind New-York NL (2.16). This marks their second-best ERA in franchise history through the first nine games. (The 2020 Rockies started their season with a 2.44 ERA).
For the Brewers, Freddy Peralta, brother of Rockies reliever Luis Peralta, will pitch.
So far this season, he’s earned a 2.08 ERA in 13.0 IP including 16 strikeouts. He has retired the last 19 batters he has faced. Peralta took a 4-1 defeat in his only start against the Rockies last season (September 8 at American Family Field). Worth noting, he is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 3 career games/2 starts at Coors Field (12 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 5 BB, 24K, 2 HR).
Lefty Kyle Freeland will take the mound for the Rockies in his third start of the season and his first at Coors Field. Currently, in addition to a new sweeper, he has a 2.13 ERA in 12.2 IP. He’s struck out 10 in what is, arguably, his best start to a season since 2018. (Read Mac Wilcox’s analysis here.)
It also marks the MLB debut of Rockies top prospect Zac Veen (No. 4 PuRP), an event fans have been waiting for.
Take a minute to appreciate his arrival at Coors Field.
That’ll play.
