Rockies look to get the bats rolling following shutout
For the 11th time this season, the Colorado Rockies were shut out on Tuesday. Scattering six hits the Rockies weren’t able to counter Ty Blach’s rough 2 1⁄3 inning outing after Germán Márquez was placed on the injured list. Anthony Molina and Noah Davis managed to eat the 6 1⁄3 innings of the table which was a much-needed result all things considered.
The Rockies will hope to fare better with Cal Quantrill (6-7, 4.15 ERA) on the hill as the possibility of him being traded grows closer. Quantrill has been a quality-start machine this season and enters this start on the heels of a six-inning quality start against the San Francisco Giants. He has made four starts against the Boston Red Sox in his career, giving up 15 runs on 26 hits in 23 1⁄3 innings of work.
The Red Sox will send out Nick Pivetta (4-6, 3.87 ERA) who has been part of the solid rotation for Boston. A known strikeout machine, Pivetta has averaged 10.62 K/9 this season while maintaining a career-best 2.32 BB/9. He’ll pound the zone and has a .670 strike percentage, the best mark of his career. In his last start, Pivetta tossed six shutout innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers, giving up just two hits and striking out eight against one walk.
