The Rockies will test their hot, homer-hitting offense in San Francisco Bay
After winning a series against the Giants at Coors Field July 19-21. the Rockies will look to take another in San Francisco this weekend and have their hottest starter on the mound.
Kyle Freeland (2-3, 5.63 ERA) has been outstanding with five quality starts since returning from the IL. He’s lowered his ERA from 13.21 before getting hurt to 5.63 now after only allowing seven earned runs with 25 strikeouts and six walks in 32 1⁄3 innings. In eight career starts at Oracle Park, Freeland is 2-3 with a 2.54 ERA.
Kyle Harrison (5-4, 3.86 ERA) will get the start for the Giants. The 22-year-old lefty was San Francisco’s third-round draft pick in 2020 and is pitching well in his first full season in MLB. In 17 starts, he’s struck out 79 batters in 91 innings. This will be his fourth start of the season against Colorado and he’s 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA, while the Giants are 2-1.
The Rockies have hit 38 homers in July, which leads Major League Baseball but will now have four games at Oracle Park — the stadium that’s seen the fewest homers this season (74 compared to 135 at Dodger Stadium or even 97 at Coors Field).
San Francisco holds the season series advantage 6-3, and lost three of four to the Dodgers between facing Colorado. The Rockies are 4-2 since the All-Star break after taking two of three from the Red Sox between Giants series.
