Rockies take a 2-game winning streak into San Diego
Wins haven’t come very easily for Austin Gomber (2-7, 4.79 ERA) this season.
In 20 starts, he’s only tallied two, despite having six quality starts. Tonight, he’ll try to get his third win of the season and extend the Rockies winning streak to three as the Rockies play the first in a three-game series at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres.
San Diego will send 25-year-old righty Randy Vásquez (3-6, 4.82 ERA) to the mound. Vásquez is coming off a rough outing against Boston when he gave up six runs on four hits with four walks in two innings. His one appearance against the Rockies didn’t go very well this season either. Back in April, he gave up four runs on six hits in 2 2⁄3 innings in a 10-9 Rockies victory.
The Rockies (40-70) are 5-2 against the Padres this season. San Diego (59-50) is in second place in the NL West, 4 1⁄2 games behind the Dodgers. The Padres would qualify for the postseason as a Wild Card team if the season ended today.
