The Rockies look to finish their road trip with a series win in San Diego
After losing a close game last night the Colorado Rockies are playing their final game in the city of San Diego, California for the 2024 season this afternoon. With a win today the Rockies can inexplicably cement a win for the season series against the San Diego Padres, whom they have a 6-3 record against with four games to go this year.
Making his 23rd start of the season for the Rockies is Cal Quantrill. The Canadian righty is coming off a clunker his last time out in which he gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and two walks over 3 2⁄3 innings of work against the Los Angeles Angels. Quantrill was surprisingly held on to at the trade deadline and will look to bounce back this afternoon as the Rockies enter the home stretch.
On the bump for the Swingin’ Friars is right-handed knuckleballer Matt Waldron. Waldron mixes a strong sweeper and a 90 MPH fastball with his primary knuckleball to great effect. He carries a 3.89 over 22 starts and 122 2⁄3 innings into today’s ballgame. Waldron last faced the Rockies back in April where he held them to one run over six innings.
