Rockies host the Braves in a 3-game series
On Friday night, for the first time in 2024, the Rockies and Braves will face off and the Rockies will be looking for their first win against Atlanta in almost two years (since Aug. 30, 2022). The Braves swept the season series 7-0 in 2023 and the Rockies haven’t defeated the Braves at Coors Field in almost three years (since Sept. 4, 2021).
The Braves (60-54) enter the series in third place in the NL East, while the Rockies (42-74) have a lock on last place in the NL West. Both teams are 4-6 in their last 10 games.
Tanner Gordon (0-3, 6.75 ERA) will be starting for Colorado in his fifth career start. The 26-year-old righty is coming off his best start yet when he gave up one run on one hit with one walk and four strikeouts in six innings against the Padres.
Atlanta will also send a rookie to the mound in 28-year-old RHP Grant Holmes (0-0, 3.00 ERA). Holmes, a 2014 first-round draft pick by the Dodgers, made his MLB debut on June 16 and he’s appeared in 12 games. He pitched in relief in his first 10 games while starting the last two. In those starts, he’s put up a 3.72 ERA in 9 2⁄3 innings with 12 strikeouts.
