The Rockies try to close the homestand on a strong note
Wednesday’s 17-2 loss was undoubtedly one of the games in Colorado Rockies history. The Rockies (2-9) close out their homestand today with a finale against the Milwaukee Brewers (7-5) before heading off to California for stints against the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers.
The story of the home stand has been a severe lack of offense for the Rockies. The team has a decent average and on-base percentage but the slugging has generally felt non-existent. The team has struggled to score more than two runs in a game through their first 11 games and their 33 runs so far this season are tied for the fewest through 11 games since 2008. Strikeouts have been a significant issue as well as the inability to string together hits, especially with runners in scoring position.
Manager Bud Black tried to shake things up with the lineup order last night but the flaws seem to go beyond a simple shuffling of that nature.
On the pitching side of the things, the Rockies will send out Ryan Feltner (0-0, 3.60 ERA) to make his third start of the season, his second at Coors Field. In his last outing against the Athletics, Feltner allowed two runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and a walk in five innings of work. Plenty of contact from the Brewers spelled trouble for Kyle Freeland and Antonio Senzatela in their outings.
The Brewers will send out newly acquired pitcher Quinn Priester whom they acquired from the Boston Red Sox recently, to make his 2025 debut. A former first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019, Priester debuted in 2023 and was later traded to the Red Sox at the 2024 trade deadline. In his brief career, the 24-year-old is 6-9 with a 6.23 ERA, compiling 99.2 innings and allowing 41 walks while striking out 69.
