Can the Rockies end Todd Helton Weekend on a high note?
The Colorado Rockies conclude their three-game Todd Helton Celebration homestand with the rubber match against the San Diego Padres this afternoon. They won the first game 7-3 on Friday, but then were clobbered 8-3 last night on actual Todd Helton HOF Night. However, Friday’s win clinched the season series against the Friars — something that has happened in seven of the last nine seasons since 2016.
Rookie right-hander Bradley Blalock (0-0, 4.05 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies this afternoon. In his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday, Blalock made his Rockies debut and first MLB start. He did not record a decision after allowing three runs on six hits over 5 2⁄3 innings while striking out four and walking one. Today will mark his first start at Coors Field. Blalock was acquired alongside fellow righty Yujanyer Herrera from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for Nick Mears.
Blalock will face Padres’ veteran right-hander Joe Musgrove (3-4, 5.20 ERA). In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday, Musgrove allowed just two hits in 4 1⁄3 innings while hitting one batter, striking out another and walk another. It was his first MLB start since being activated off the 60-day IL after battling right elbow inflammation. Today marks Musgrove’s ninth-career start against the Rockies and his fourth at Coors Field. He is 4-3 with a 3.06 ERA.
