The Rockies will go for their third straight victory
A fantastic start by Austin Gomber combined with just enough offense early in the game gave the Colorado Rockies their second straight victory to kick off their road trip. Now, they will look to rally behind a young lineup to take the series against the Washington Nationals.
The Rockies will send Tanner Gordon (0-4, 7.00 ERA) to the mound to make his seventh start of the year. He looks to bounce back after his last start where he recorded just two outs in the first inning after surrendering four runs on three hits and issuing two walk on 44 pitches. He struggled with his command against the Arizona Diamondbacks and ended up getting hit hard. Gordon has no problem throwing strikes typically, but it’s a matter of throwing more quality strikes and not giving opposing batters anything too good to hit. He’ll look to get back on Bud Black’s good side and give the team some length.
The Nats will counter with Mitchell Parker (6-7, 4.44 ERA) making his 23rd start of the year. The rookie hurler started the month off with two quality starts before giving up nine runs in three innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in his last start. The last time he faced the Rockies at Coors Field, Parker gave up four runs over six innings with a season-high eight strikeouts.
