It’s an alliterative matchup in the Bronx this afternoon
The Colorado Rockies conclude their road trip with a weekend series at Yankee Stadium, their first visit to the Bronx since 2019 and just their fifth in franchise history. They fell 3-0 last night, and have lost four of their last five at Yankee Stadium. They dropped the series to the Washington Nationals, but took a 2-1 series win over the San Diego Padres at Coors Field last weekend. They have won or split six of their last seven home series since July 1. However, they have also won just two road series this season — they took two of three against the Los Angeles Angels from July 30-August 1 and swept the Padres from May 13-15. Their .279 road winning percentage is the second-worst in MLB behind the Chicago White Sox (.197). If it stands, it will be the lowest road winning percentage in franchise history.
That all said, though, Bradley Blalock (0-0, 2.92 ERA) will take the mound for the Rox in his third-career start. He has yet to lose a game (or win one, but that’s beside the point)! In his last outing against the Padres on Sunday, Blalock threw 5 2⁄3 innings and allowed just one run on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts.
Blalock will face fellow alliterative rookie righty Will Warren (0-1, 8.59 ERA). Warren is making his fourth-career start after making his MLB debut on July 30. In his last outing against the White Sox, Warren threw five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts. He also has yet to win a game, so we’ll see if either one of these pitchers earns their first this afternoon.
Can the Rockies even the series this afternoon?
