Feltner returns from the injured list to kick off the four-game series
Well, it’s not exactly a heavyweight match-up but the basement dwellers of the National League meet up at Coors Field to kick off a four-game set.
The Colorado Rockies (48-83) and the Miami Marlins (47-83) have both struggled this season. The Marlins have clearly been moving towards a total rebuild under their new leadership while the Rockies are reconstructing with a youth movement. Both teams are in desperate need of change and have the best odds to snag the number one pick in the 2025 draft.
You’ll recall that the Rockies were swept by the Marlins in Miami earlier in the season in a disaster series for Colorado that saw them blow several leads late in the game.
Ryan Feltner (1-10, 5.00 ERA) returns from the 15-day injured list to make the start tonight. Feltner lasted just one inning in his last start, landing on the IL with a shoulder strain, but with an option spot in the rotation the Rockies needed a starter. The last time Feltner faced the Marlins he tossed eight shutout innings before giving up three runs in the ninth in a game where the Marlins went on to win. He’ll look for some revenge but the Rockies are sure to keep an eye on him and make sure the shoulder is doing okay.
Meanwhile, the Marlins send Edward Cabrera (2-5, 5.65 ERA) to the hill. The young right-hander has had some inconsistent starts this year, but has shown the flashes of excellence that make him an intriguing arm. He landed on the 60-day IL in May with a right shoulder impingement and returned on July 7. Since returning he’s done fairly well aside from two clunkers where he gave up 13 runs combined. In his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cabrera allowed three runs on four hits over six innings of work. In three starts against the Rockies in his career, he owns a 3.94 ERA with 24 strikeouts.
Additionally, the Rockies announced a few moves in relation to activating Feltner.
The Rockies announced the following moves today:
– Reinstated RHP Ryan Feltner from the 15-day injured list.
– Placed LHP Lucas Gilbreath on the 15-day injured list (left shoulder inflammation).
– Recalled RHP Jake Bird from Triple-A Albuquerque.
– Optioned RHP Peter Lambert to…— Rockies Club Information (@RockiesClubInfo) August 26, 2024
