The sport fish had the Rockies reeling after last night’s collapse. Can the Rockies land themselves a whopper tonight?
So… about last night.
The Colorado Rockies dropped their fourth game of the 2024 season of which they held a four runs or greater lead in the ninth inning. This is a feat never before accomplished in the modern era. If I had a nickel for every time the Rockies blew a four-or-more run lead in the ninth inning, I’d have to nickels—which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Tonight the Rockies look to rebound against their fellow basement dwellers, the Miami Marlins, in the third of four games with the aim of cementing at least a series split.
On the mound for the Rockies is lefty Kyle Freeland, who performed admirably against a very strong New York Yankees lineup his last time out. Freeland spun a 6 2⁄3 inning quality start while giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits against the likes of Juan Soto, Aaron Judge, and Giancarlo Stanton.
Toeing the rubber for the Marlins is the 25-year-old righty Max Meyer, who still has his rookie status intact despite making his debut in 2022. The Rockies will be seeing Meyer—who has a 5.44 ERA through nine starts and 46 1⁄3 innings—for the first time. His one-two punch is a high-80s slider that he combines with a mid-90s four seam fastball. He also throws a changeup and a sinker.
