Jackson Holliday will make his Coors Field debut as a player this weekend
With just 21 games against each other, the Rockies and Orioles haven’t faced off very often. Only six of those games have taken place at Coors Field with the latest coming in 2019. In 2024, the Orioles are a very different team, going from 108 losses in 2019 to 101 wins in 2023. Meanwhile, the Rockies are in their sixth straight losing season, going from 91 losses in 2019 to 103 in 2023.
On Friday, the Rockies (50-85) will host Baltimore (77-58) in the first of a three-game series. Austin Gomber (4-9, 4.70 ERA) will be on the mound for Colorado. Gomber has been pretty solid in five starts in August, tallying two wins and three quality starts with a 4.34 ERA in 29 innings with 20 strikeouts and eight walks.
Albert Suárez (6-4, 3.18 ERA) will get the start for the Orioles, who have five All-Stars on their squad. After pitching in 11 games in 2016-17 for the San Francisco Giants, Suárez played professionally in Japan and Korea from 2018-2023 until an injury ended that chapter of his career. In September of 2023, he signed with the Orioles and made the MLB roster in 2024. With Balitimore’s rotation taking a hit with numerous injuries this season, Suárez has pitched in 26 games this season, starting 18 of those and putting up the best ERA in the current starting rotation.
After spending many hours at Coors Field as a kid watching his dad, Matt Holliday star for the Rockies, Jackson Holliday, 20, will make his debut as a player at Coors Field this weekend. The rookie second baseman who was the first pick of the 2022 MLB Draft and is hitting .172/.226/.546 as he adjusts to the big leagues.
