Rockies begin 9-game road trip tonight at Atlanta
The Rockies will take on Atlanta in the first part of a three-stop, nine-game journey, their final multiple-city road trip of 2024, Tuesday through Thursday before stops in Milwaukee and Detroit.
Up first, Kyle Freeland (2-6, 5.51 ERA) will be on the mound for the Rockies Tuesday night. Freeland has pitched 12 games since returning from an elbow injury on June 23, posting a 3.76 ERA in 69 1⁄3 innings. He’s struck out 58 while walking 16 and giving up 11 homers, going 4-3 and the Rockies have gone 8-4 when Freeland starts.
Chris Sale (15-3, 2.58 ERA), the seven-time All-Star, is having an All-Star season despite not having appeared in the Midsummer Classic since 2018. The 35-year-old lefty has 197 strikeouts in 153 2⁄3 innings.
The Braves (74-63) enter the series in second place in the NL East, seven games back of Philadelphia and 0.5 games ahead of the Mets. The Braves are currently holding on to the third and final Wild Card spot behind San Diego and Arizona in a race that should be fun to watch as the season plays out. The Rockies (51-87) are in last place in the NL West and entire National League and would need to go 12-12 in their final 24 games to avoid their second consecutive 100-loss season. Colorado did take the first series 2-1 against the Braves at Coors Field in August.
