The Rockies are primed for their second straight attempt at a sweep
The Colorado Rockies are once again on the cusp of a potential sweep for the second consecutive series and will look to stick the landing, unlike the series against the Chicago Cubs. With 59 wins on the year, the Rockies have matched their victory total from 2023, giving them a decent chance to avoid 100 losses with 10 games to go in the year.
Austin Gomber (5-10, 4.44 ERA) will take the hill for the Rockies in his second start back from paternity leave. In his last outing, Gomber allowed two runs on nine hits in six strong innings against the Cubs and will now face a tough Diamondbacks lineup. With his 29th start of the year, Gomber has the chance to set a new career-high in strikeouts in a season in that has already been the best year as a starter. He’s set career highs in starts, and innings pitched, and could have the best ERA of his career.
The Diamondbacks counter with veteran lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (2-3, 5.50 ERA). Since making his season debut at the start of August, Rodriguez has been trying to get his feet underneath him in what has been a less-than-ideal season. Results have been mixed to say the least and his first couple of starts in September haven’t been much to write home about. He has pitched five innings in just one start this month, giving up 10 runs in 13 innings of work. His last start was an improvement when he allowed two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts and three walks.
And now to the details.
