The Rockies will attempt to take one from the Dodgers this evening
The Colorado Rockies fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers 6-4 last night, but luckily they avoided Shohei Ohtani getting his 50/50 against them. He instead got to 52/52, but hopefully they can contain him there. They need to win four more games to avoid 100 losses, and five of their next eight games come against the formidable (but struggling) Dodgers.
Cal Quantrill (8-10, 4.68 ERA) will start for the Fighting Rockies. Quantrill was placed on the 15-day IL on September 1 with right triceps inflammation, and was activated prior to his last start on September 15 against the Chicago Cubs. In that outing, Quantrill threw just 69 pitches over 2 1⁄3 innings. He allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a career-high six walks in the 6-2 Rockies loss. It was his second-shortest start of the season (July 9 at Cincinnati Reds), and the six walked tied with Bradley Blalock (September 4 at Atlanta Braves) for the most in a game for a Rockies starter this season.
Quantrill will duel Dodgers right-hander Walker Buehler (1-5, 5.54 ERA). Buehler had his second Tommy John surgery and a flexor tendon repair in August 2022 and made his way back in May of this year. He was placed back on the IL with a hip injury in June, but came back off on August 14. Buehler has made 14 starts for the Dodgers this year. In his last outing against the Braves, Buehler threw six innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts in the 9-2 Dodgers victory.
Can the Rockies continue to stifle the Dodgers’ chances of winning the NL West, and contain Shohei Ohtani’s quest to 55/55 or even 60/60?
