Can the Rockies win the series against the Dodgers?
The Colorado Rockies won a close contest against the Los Angeles Dodgers last night 6-3, thanks in part to a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning to seal the victory. Ryan McMahon also hit his 20th homer of the season, becoming the 10th player in franchise history to have at least five seasons of at least 20 homers. McMahon, Brenton Doyle (22 HR), Michael Toglia (25 HR) and Ezequiel Tovar (25 HR) are also the first group of at least four Rockies to have 20+ homers in a season since 2019 when Nolan Arenado (41), Trevor Story (35), Blackmon (32), McMahon (24) and Ian Desmond (20) recorded the feat.
Antonio Senzatela (0-0, 6.00 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies this afternoon. Senzatela made his first start of the season on September 16 — his first MLB start since May 10, 2023 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and first start at Coors Field since August 12, 2022. In that outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Senzatela allowed two runs on four hits across three innings, walking two and fanning two in a 3-2 Rockies victory. Senzatela is facing the Dodgers for the first time since April 10, 2022 at Coors Field, and is making his first start at Dodger Stadium since September 21, 2021. He has faced them 15 times (13 starts) and holds a 4-5 record and 5.98 ERA.
Senzatela will face Dodgers’ right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6-2, 2.63 ERA), who was also recently reinstated from the 60-day IL with triceps tightness. In his last start on September 16 against the Atlanta Braves, Yamamoto tossed four scoreless innings while allowing two walks and three strikeouts. He faced the Rockies earlier this season on June 1, allowing just one run on seven hits over six innings with seven strikeouts and one walk.
