Can the Rockies score a run tonight?
Good news: The Colorado Rockies don’t have to play the San Diego Padres again tonight.
Bad news: They instead have to play the Los Angeles Dodgers.
After being shut out in three-straight games for the first time in franchise history, the Rox will look to turn a page in Chavez Ravine. Luckily for them, the Dodgers have also lost back-to-back games against the Chicago Cubs. On Saturday, they were handed their worst shutout loss in franchise history (a 16-0 clubbing), and lost 4-2 again last night. It marked their first home series loss of 2025. They have lost six of their last nine games and three-consecutive series.
So, they will likely be playing angry and trying to get back on track, which could bode poorly for the Rockies, who are also trying to get back on track and struggling offensively period.
Antonio Senzatela (0-2, 5.14 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies to try to stop the bleeding. Senzatela did not allow an earned run through his first two starts of the season (9 2⁄3 IP) with 19 hits allowed, two walks and three strikeouts. However, in his last start against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 9, he allowed a career high-tying nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts. He has faced the Dodgers 17 times (15 starts), and is 4-6 with a 6.08 ERA. At Dodger Stadium, he has made nine appearances (eight starts) and has a 1-4 record and 5.45 ERA. He has also allowed 11 home runs in LA, so that might be something to watch for tonight. But in his last start here, Senzatela allowed one earned run through five innings last September.
Senza will face Dodgers’ right-hander Dustin May (0-1, 0.82 ERA). After an injury-plagued two seasons that featured a torn flexor tendon in his right arm and an esophageal tear, May has performed well this season so far for the Dodgers. He has allowed just one earned run in 11 innings across two starts, while holding his opponents to a .108 average. In his last start against the Washington Nationals, May tossed six innings and allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits with three walks and a strikeout. He has faced the Rockies four other times in his career (three starts) and is 0-0 with a 2.81 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
Can the Rockies snap out of their funk and take advantage of this Dodgers downswing?
