Has Senza’s strong spring set him up for regular season success?
Okay, yesterday was a tough one, but today is a new day. It’s an exciting one, too, as your Colorado Rockies will send out Antonio Senzatela to try to even their season-opening series against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Senzatela was arguably Colorado’s best starting pitcher during spring training, as he collected a sparkling 1.56 ERA in his six games, tallying 16 strikeouts and four walks in 17 1⁄3 innings. Batters made contact – 16 hits in those starts – but Senzatela’s ability to limit damage was a great sign as he attempts to bounce back from injuries to rejoin the Rockies rotation.
“Senza” has never faced the Rays before, so an effective start today would both start his season on the right foot and help the Rockies secure their first win of the 2025 season.
Manager Bud Black has assembled the same lineup today as yesterday. The Rockies offensive unit will want to cut down on the Ks today, as they struck out 12 times and went just 2-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
They’ll have a chance to do so against Zack Littell, who has never recorded a win against Colorado and owns a 3.66 ERA in 12 appearances versus our guys. He’s only started against them twice (most of those appearances were in relief for the San Francisco Giants), but his two starts against the Rox as a member of the Rays shows that he’s certainly hittable.
Will Ryan McMahon continue to hit 1.000 on the season? Will Kris Bryant collect his first knock of the season? Who will hit Colorado’s first home run of the season? Let’s find out!
