Rockies try to take the 2nd game of Wednesday’s doubleheader to avoid a sweep
Hoping to salvage this three-game road trip in Kansas City, the Rockies will try to get a win this afternoon in Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Royals on Thursday afternoon.
At least they have a pitcher with one of their four wins on the mound as Chase Dollander (1-2, 7.36 ERA) will be making his fourth career start. He began his rookie season with a win and he remains one of only two starters to record a win (along with Antonio Senzatela) this season. As noted in Evan Lang’s spotlight on Dollander on Monday, Dollander has been great with strikeouts, recording 18 in 14 2⁄3 innings. On the downside, the former Tennessee Volunteer has given up eight homers, including four in his last outing when he gave up six earned runs (nine total runs) against the Nationals on April 19.
Michael Lorenzen (1-3, 4.57 ERA) was originally slated to go head-to-head against Germán Márquez on Wednesday night before the game was postponed due to rain. Márquez stayed in the next game slot, which turned into Game 1 of the doubleheader, but Lorenzen was moved to Game 2.
Lorenzen will be making his fifth start of the season. He’s posted one quality start on the year, but gave up four runs on seven hits in 4 2⁄3 innings against Detroit on April 17. The 33-year-old RHP is in his 11th year in the Major Leagues.
