The Rockies will look to bounce back after last night’s loss
The Colorado Rockies struggled last night, losing 11-5 to the Washington Nationals. It is their longest home stand of the 2024 season so far, and they have gone 2-6 against the Pittsburgh Pirates and 1-3 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have gone 5-15 so far in June, the worst in the majors, after posting a 14-13 record in May. They have also been out scored 142-90, the most runs allowed in MLB (the New York Yankees are second with 100 runs allowed).
The Rox are 125-100 all-time against the Nationals/Expos since 1993. It is their best winning percentage against any single opponent in franchise history, but they have lost the season series to the Nats each of the last two years.
Cal Quantrill (6-5, 3.43 ERA) will take the mound for the Rockies. In his last outing, Quantrill suffered his fifth loss of the season. He allowed three runs on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts in five innings of work. He’d entered the game with an 11-inning scoreless streak after consecutive scoreless outings at the Minnesota Twins and St. Louis Cardinals. Quantrill has faced the Nationals only once before, pitching six innings of three-run ball with three strikeouts and two walks.
Quantrill will face Nats’ rookie left-hander Mitchell Parker (5-3, 3.06 ERA). Parker was the Nats’ fifth-round draft pick in the 2020 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut on April 15 of this year and has gone 5-3 with a 3.06 ERA in nine starts. In his last outing against the Miami Marlins, Parker threw six innings and allowed just one run on six hits and struck out four. Today will be his professional debut against the Rockies.
Can they take one back?
