Consensus number one Rockies prospect Chase Dollander made his presence known in an impressive spring training performance, but began the season in Triple-A Albuquerque. Fans eagerly awaited the day that he would take the mound at the MLB level, and after just one start with the ‘Topes, that day has arrived.
Dollander’s debut is required viewing for many of the Coors faithful. He’s one of the highest-ceiling hurlers since Jon Gray and has drawn comparisons to Paul Skenes. The hype is very real, and today is the first step in a journey that fans hope will lead the Rockies into the future.
The Oakredacted Athletics will attempt to rain on his parade. They’ve taken the first two games of the series from Colorado and will look to complete the sweep with another win on Sunday.
To that end, they’ll send out Joey Estes (0-1, 13.50 ERA). His first start of the season saw him lit up by the Chicago Cubs in what ended up as a rout. Estes’ lone previous start against Colorado saw him cede four runs in seven innings of work. This will be his first time pitching in spacious Coors Field.
