Rockies are trying to salvage a win in Cincy
The Colorado Rockies battled the elements and a rough start from Cal Quantrill while enjoying a two-homer game from Brenton Doyle but bullpen struggles still resulted in another loss on Tuesday. They now look to build some momentum from their offense and salvage a win in game three of the series in Cincinnati.
They will send Kyle Freeland (0-3, 6.62 ERA) to the mound as he aims to continue his success since returning from the injured list. Since returning to the rotation Freeland has allowed just three earned runs in 19 2⁄3 innings over his past three starts. He has pitched at least six innings in each start, including seven innings in his last outing at home against the Kansas City Royals. Freeland has rebounded nicely from his rough start to the year and will need to produce a solid start to relieve the bullpen a bit.
Opposing Freeland is Frankie Montas (4-6, 4.19 ERA) for the Reds. The Rockies are sure to hope for better luck against Montas after he blanked them for seven innings, giving up just one hit while striking out nine batters at Coors Field on June 4. Montas’s last start came on July 4 when he gave up two runs over five innings against the New York Yankees.
