The Rockies will look to take Game 2 in Queens
The Colorado Rockies came oh so close to beating the New York Mets last night when both clubs combined for nine home runs — five for the Mets and four for the Rox. It was the first time the Rockies have hit four homers on the road since July 30, 2021 against the San Diego Padres. Brenton Doyle — who has tragically not been named an All-Star — has been on an absolute tear. In 11 games since July 1, Doyle has gone 17-for-37 with five doubles, seven home runs, 14 RBI, eight walks and one stolen base. The reigning NL Player of the Week is slashing .459/.556/.1.162 during that span, leading the Majors in hits, OBP, slugging, OPS (1.718), home runs, total bases (43) and extra-base hits while ranking second in average and RBI. Notably, Doyle was the fifth player in franchise history to have an OPS of 1.767 or better in a 10-game span, joining names such as Carlos González (2010), Matt Holliday (2007), Todd Helton (2003, 2001, 2000 2x) and Larry Walker (1997). He’s also the second Rockie all-time to have at least 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases prior to the All-Star break, joining Charlie Blackmon in 2015.
Not bad company!
Ryan Feltner (1-8, 5.29 ERA) will start for the Rockies today. In his last outing against the Cincinnati Reds, Feltner allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts over seven innings. Feltner has made two career starts against the Mets, both at Citi Field. He holds a 0-1 record (Rockies 1-1) with a 7.88 ERA.
Feltner will face Mets’ rookie right-hander Christian Scott (0-2, 4.15 ERA). In his last outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates, Scott pitched 5 2⁄3 innings and allowed two runs on one hit while issuing one walk and striking out three.
