The Rockies will look to win the series against the Giants this evening
The Colorado Rockies will look to take Game 2 against the San Francisco Giants this evening at Coors Field in their first series of the second half. They are currently 35-63 after going 2-5 on the final road trip heading into the All-Star break. Despite the four-day layoff, Brenton Doyle continues hit hot stretch, hitting his ninth home run in 14 July games last night:

Remember, he rules!
Including Doyle, the Rockies have been generally experiencing a power surge as of late. They have hit 21 home runs as a team since July 9, and have scored 24 of their last 25 runs via the long ball. This includes 20-consecutive runs spanning from Michael Toglia’s fifth-inning home run on July 9 against the Cincinnati Reds through Doyle’s homer last night in the sixth inning. This season is the first time that Colorado had three players with 14+ home runs at the All-Star Break who were in their rookie or sophomore season (Toglia 16, Doyle 15, Tovar 14). It also marks the first time the team’s top-three home run leaders at the break were either rookies or sophomores. The kids are stepping up!
However, on the mound, Kyle Freeland (1-3, 6.00 ERA) will take the ball for the Rockies. Freeland threw 6 2⁄3 innings and allowed two runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts and one walk. He recorded his first winning decision of the season on July 10 against the Reds. It marked his first win since September 5, 2023 against the Arizona Diamondbacks and it was his fourth-straight quality start. With the victory, he tied Ubaldo Jiménez for sixth-most in franchise history (56) and is two away from tying Jason Jennings for fifth. His 765 career strikeouts are also only eight away from tying Jiménez for fourth-most in franchise history (773). If he posts a quality start today, Freeland will tie Cal Quantrill for the longest streak in 2024.
Freeland will be facing Giants’ right-hander Logan Webb (7-7, 3.47 ERA) fresh off his 2024 All-Star Game appearance. Webb pitched the third inning for the National League, throwing 31 pitches and allowing three runs on three hits with a walk and a strikeout. In his last outing against the Toronto Blue Jays on July 10, Webb matched a career-high seven earned runs and surrendered eight hits with four strikeouts over just five innings of work. It marked just his fourth time failing to reach six innings in 2024.
Can the Rockies newfound power offense use the Force to the All-Star today?
