Baseball is back, baby!
Baseball is back, baby! Pitchers and catchers reported last Thursday; everyone else reported on Tuesday; and today marks the first official game of the 2025 season. The Rockies will look to improve on their 61-101 record from a year ago, and they will face an Arizona Diamondbacks team who is looking to rebound from a missed playoff opportunity following a World Series appearance in 2023. How will the Rockies look in 2025?
Bradley Blalock will take the mound for the Colorado Rockies against the Snakes. Blalock, 24, came to the Rockies from the Milwaukee Brewers in the Nick Mears trade and made his MLB debut on June 20, 2024. In six starts with the Rockies, he posted a 1-3 record and 6.07 ERA through 29 2⁄3 innings.
Blalock will face newly-acquired Corbin Burnes. Burnes, 30, was signed by the Snakes on December 30 for six years and $210 million. The 2021 Cy Young winner and four-time All-Star was considered the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market this past winter. Last year with the Baltimore Orioles, Burnes made 32 starts and posted a 15-9 record and 2.92 ERA.
Spring is in the air and hopefully the Rockies can start on a good note. And if nothing else, we can finally see some of the young guys the Rox are excited about:
