A healthy Germán Márquez makes his second start of the spring against our friends from the Pacific Northwest
After the Colorado Rockies had their first real bad performance of spring training against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, they will try to rebound against the Seattle Mariners.
The home team at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick today, the Rockies have been somewhat busy in the last 24 hours. Right-handed reliever Justin Lawrence was placed on waivers, while five non-roster invites—Tommy Doyle, Sean Sullivan, Ronaiker Palma, Bryant Betancourt, and Julio Carreras—were reassigned to minor league camp.
It was also announced that right-handed reliever Jeff Criswell—who made his debut in 2024—will be getting Tommy John surgery and miss the 2025 season.
Germán Márquez will be making his second start of the spring and will pitch 2-3 innings against the Mariners. He looked sharp in his spring debut, locating his pitches well and dialing up the velocity on his fastball. He pitched two hitless innings and struck out two batters.
On the bump for the Mariners is the right-handed Logan Gilbert, who was a key piece of a strong Seattle rotation in 2024. Gilbert made 33 starts for the Mariners and posted a 3.23 ERA over 208 2⁄3 innings and 220 strikeouts. He works with a hefty six-pitch arsenal consisting of a slider, a four-seam fastball averaging 96 MPH, a split finger, a curveball, a cutter, and a sinker.
