Today marks the first video broadcast of 2025
The Colorado Rockies out-slugged the Arizona Diamondbacks 12-8 yesterday. Sean Bouchard recorded the Rockies’ first hit of 2025 with a single in the second inning. He also hit a double in the fourth. Adael Amador (mid-season No. 3 PuRP) recorded the Rockies’ first RBI in that same inning, knocking in Bouchard. Brenton Doyle then cleared the rest of the bases with the Rockies’ first homer of 2025, and a grand slam to boot. The rematch is set for this afternoon, this time featuring the Rockies as the home team.
Gabriel Hughes (No. 11 PuRP) will take the mound for the Rockies. The right-hander is making his 2025 debut after missing half of 2023 and all of 2024 due to Tommy John surgery. He pitched in the Arizona Fall League, though, and started six games. Hughes threw 17 1⁄3 innings with an 8.31 ERA and 1.73 WHIP in the AFL.
Hughes will face D-backs’ right-hander (and old friend) John Curtiss. The 31-year-old was signed to a minor league contract with a spring training invite this offseason. He spent 2024 with the Rockies, posting a 15.43 ERA in three outings and 2 1⁄3 innings. He was first signed during the offseason, but then was DFA’d and outrighted on May 27. He elected free agency three days later, but then re-signed. Curtiss was then released on July 1, but re-signed again on July 3. He was once again DFA’d and outrighted again in August, and he finally elected free agency again at the end of the season. Prior to his time in Colorado, Curtiss spent time with the New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, Miami Marlins, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Angels and Minnesota Twins.
Can the Rockies keep their win streak alive against an old friend?
