Dollander won’t start the season in the bigs, but he can continue to make his case for a quick call-up
We’re officially within a week of the start of the regular season. With most – but not all – of the Colorado Rockies roster spots filled, it’s crunch time for the final few positional battles. Who will break out in these last few days and make themselves undeniable?
Chase Dollander (2-2, 5.65 ERA) won’t begin the season on the big league squad, but his strong work in spring training has likely sped up his arrival date. Today will almost certainly be his final appearance of the preseason, so he’ll look to leave Arizona on a high note.
While this will be Dollander’s last spring outing with the Rockies, it’s the first for the newly-arrived Tyler Freeman, acquired yesterday from the Cleveland Guardians in a move that sent Nolan Jones back to the team that drafted him. Freeman, likely to start at second base in the wake of Thairo Estrada’s injury, will attempt to get off to a hot start and ingratiate himself with his new fanbase.
Freeman is currently slashing .308/.413/.667 with two home runs this spring.
