He is the second reliever traded by the Rockies before the trade deadline.
Just days after sending Nick Mears to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Colorado Rockies have made their second move involving a reliever of the 2024 Trade Deadline, sending left-hander Jalen Beeks to the Pittsburgh Pirates for left-handed pitching prospect Luis Peralta.
MLB Insider Mark Feinsand was the first to report the deal.
The Rockies are trading LHP Jalen Beeks to the Pirates, per source. Colorado will receive Double-A LHP Luis Peralta.

Beeks, 31, was initially claimed off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays by the Rockies last offseason. He now finds himself on a team in the midst of the National League Wild Card race.
Pitching in purple, Beeks was quite effective in his first two months where he posted a 2.93 ERA in 27 2⁄3 innings over 25 appearances. However, over 20 games in June and July, he has earned a 7.06 ERA in 21 2⁄3 innings and has recorded four blown saves. Although he did record nine saves with the Rockies, he also recorded seven blown saves in total.
A major factor working in Beeks’ favor is an ability to throw strikes and work well against lefties — they are hitting just .182 against him.
He is scheduled to become a free agent after the season.
In return, the Rockies net a solid prospect in Peralta, the younger brother of Milwaukee’s Freddy Peralta.
This season he has gone 4-0 with a 0.91 ERA across 26 appearances between High-A Greensboro and Double-A Altoona. He has recorded 64 strikeouts against 18 walks in 35 innings of work and has a fantastic 0.983 WHIP. The southpaw was recently ranked as the Pirates’ 25th best prospect on FanGraphs’ Pirates top prospect list.
He utilizes a fastball/slider combo with an ability to hit the mid-90s on the former.
However, He is Rule-5 Draft eligible this winter and will need to be added to the 40-man roster for protection.
With less than 24 hours until the Trade Deadline passes at 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday (July 30), it remains to be seen if the Rockies will offload any of their other trade chips.
