Can the Padres pull off the upset of the top-seeded Dodgers?
The Yankees are in, the Royals are out and the Guardians and Tigers are headed to Game 5.
After an outstanding regular season, Bobby Witt Jr.’s struggles in the postseason continued. Even though he singled and scored the only run for Kansas City in Thursday’s loss, he finished the postseason going 5-for-26 without an extra base hit. As Rockies fans dream of following the Kansas City model, making it to the second round of the playoffs would be a remarkable turnaround. Meanwhile, Garrit Cole threw seven solid innings to send the Yankees to the AL Championship Series.
In Detroit, David Fry hit a two-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning to put Cleveland ahead 4-3. Fry then hit an RBI sac bunt in the ninth to keep the Guardians season alive and send the series back to Cleveland. The game will be on Saturday to decide who will take on the Yankees.
On Friday, there is only one game on the slate and it will decide who goes on to play the Mets in the NLCS.

SP: Yoshinobu Yamamoto (LAD) vs. Yu Darvish (SD)
The two NL West rivals are back in L.A. where the winner will go on and the loser will be done for 2024. Yoshinobu Yamamoto started Game one for the Dodgers and didn’t do so well. He gave up three runs on five hits in the first inning, including a two-run homer from Manny Machado. The Dodgers bounced back and won the game 7-5.
Yu Darvish beat the Dodgers in Game 2 in Los Angeles when he held the Dodgers to one run on three hits in seven innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
