The Rockies’ right-hander will start down in Texas
The MLB Futures Game is a showcase for many of the game’s hottest prospects, and the 2024 iteration, which is the 25th anniversary of the contest, is no different. The game will feature 38 of MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 Prospects list, including eight of the top 18.
It will also feature the first-ever Futures Skills Showcase, a hitting showcase reminiscent of the one in the Arizona Fall League. The Skills Showcase will feature eight prospects (four from each league) participating in three rounds of challenges: Hit It Here, Call Your Shot and Swing for the Fences.
While the Colorado Rockies don’t have any participants in the Skills Showcase, they do have the honor of fielding the starting pitcher for the National League.
Right-hander Chase Dollander (No. 2 PuRP) will kick things off. The Rockies’ ninth-overall pick in 2023 has been tearing it up with the High-A Spokane Indians. In 14 stars, Dollander has a 4-1 record and 2.83 ERA. Dollander is currently ranked as the Rockies’ top prospect and MLB Pipeline’s No. 36. In his last outing on July 9, Dollander struck out nine batters in three innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits with two walks and one hit batter.
The Futures Game will get underway at 4pm ET/2pm MT this afternoon and will be carried live on MLB Network. It will also be streamed on MLB.tv, MLB.com and the MLB App. The Skills Showcase will air on a tape delay at 10am ET/8am MT on Sunday on MLB Network.
