Feltner shoves and Doyle drives in five as Rox salvage a win
After getting bludgeoned by the Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night, the Colorado Rockies rebounded to avoid a sweep and end their homestand with a 7-2 victory.
Ryan Feltner dazzled on the mound as the team enjoyed a strong performance from Brenton Doyle at the plate and the team utilized a vital five-run rally in the eighth to give them the lead late and improve to 3-9 on the season.
Feltner Shoves
Feltner displayed what can make him one of the Rockies’ best starters on the mound. He dazzled through six innings scattering three hits and allowing just one run while walking just two Brewers and striking out seven.
He controlled the game for the majority of his start, but the trend of one bad inning threatened to occur once again for Feltner in the fourth inning. Christan Yelich and William Contreras kicked off the inning with back-to-back doubles to tie the game 1-1. Feltner then issued walks to Garrett Mitchell and Jake Bauers to load the bases with nobody out. Rather than letting the inning get out of control, Feltner got Joey Ortiz to line out to third followed by back-to-back punchouts of Oliver Dunn and Eric Haase.
Feltner didn’t get the win, but after the pitching was battered by the Brewers in the first two games, it was a welcome performance to set the tone for the Rockies. Manager Bud Black revealed in his postgame conference that Feltner was also battling the flu as well.
Doyle Rules
While Feltner got it done on the mound, Doyle was getting it done at the plate with a three-hit, five-RBI performance.
He kicked things off with his second leadoff homer of the season, his third homer on the year, to give the Rockies an early 1-0 lead in the first.

His next significant hit came in the seventh inning when he laced a single to center field to score Mickey Moniak and give the Rockies a 2-1 lead. He then delivered the big hit in the eighth when he hit a towering fly ball to center field that kicked off the wall for a bases-clearing double.

Doyle now owns a .302 average and .867 OPS at the top of the order.
Supporting Cast Coming Through
While Doyle and Feltner played their part in the victory the Rockies the rest of the supporting cast played their part as well.
A struggling Michael Toglia delivered three hits, including an RBI double in the eighth. Ryan McMahon went 2-for-3 and kicked off the rally in the eighth with a lead-off double. The team also had crucial hits like Mickey Moniak’s double in the seventh as well as rookie Zac Veen’s RBI double in the eighth to make it a 7-2 Rockies.

Additionally, Jake Bird struggled with his command in the eighth out of the bullpen, but Scott Alexander came in with the bases loaded in and no outs to induce a double play and get a strikeout to keep the game tied 2-2 at that point. Seth Halvorsen then closed the door with a strong ninth to close the game out.
Up Next
The Rockies hit the road for their first taste of division action. They’ll kick things off with a three-game set in San Diego on Friday with Germán Márquez toeing the rubber against Nick Pivetta.
