Rockies select the contract of RHP Zach Agnos, place RHP Victor Vodnik on the 15-day IL.

The Rockies youth movement calls upon another top prospect early in the season.

Prior to their double-header on Sunday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies announced that they are placing right-handed reliever Victor Vodnik on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to April 17th.

Vodnik, 25, has made nine appearances this season with a 4.50 ERA over eight innings. He’s given up two home runs and has struck out eight batters while walking six.

In a corresponding roster move, the Rockies have selected the contract of right-handed reliever Zach Agnos (no. 23 PuRP) from the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

Agnos, 24, was selected in 10th round of the 2022 draft. A former two-way player out of East Carolina University, he has been very impressive throughout his minor league career. In parts of four minor league seasons he holds a 1.82 ERA over 99 appearances and 113 ²⁄₃ innings of work.

Agnos has made a name for himself with his unique style—combining a mustache and a 90s style turtleneck undershirt—and his desire to deliver in the spotlight as a closer.

“It’s honestly exciting,” he told Purple Row last season. “You can’t ignore the fact when you’re going in, and it’s the last inning, and if you save the game, you get to go dab up your catcher, get a big hug, and everybody’s going a little bit nuts. You can’t deny that.”

This season with Triple-A Albuquerque he has given up an earned run in just two of his six appearances. Over eight innings of work he has struck out ten batters to just three walks.

Agnos will wear no. 36 on his jersey, last worn by reliever Geoff Hartlieb in 2024.

To clear space on the 40-man roster, left-handed reliever Evan Justice has been designated for assignment.
