The catcher’s new contract is for 2025 and includes a mutual option for 2026.
The Colorado Rockies announced early on Wednesday afternoon that they are in agreement with catcher Jacob Stallings on a one-year deal.
Stallings, 34, signed with the Rockies prior to the 2024 season on a one-year, $1.5 million deal that included a mutual option for 2025. He declined that mutual option to negotiate a new contract after a strong first year in purple.
The new contract is for one year and $2 million, with a $2 million mutual option in 2026 and a $500,000 buyout.
Although known primarily as a glove-first catcher, Stallings had one of the best offensive seasons of his career in 2024. He hit .263/.357/.453 with 17 doubles, his second career triple, and a career-high nine home runs in 82 games as the Rockies’ backup backstop.
Behind the plate he was a solid defensive presence and was praised as a “steadying influence” for both rookies and veterans on the Rockies’ pitching staff.
“I’ve done a lot of my career working with young pitchers,” said Stallings. “We have a mixture here of young guys and guys who have been around the league. So, it’s been good for me.”
Stallings will likely be paired with a younger catcher on the Rockies’ 2025 roster, such as Hunter Goodman or Drew Romo.
